We hired Patricia initially in 2019 to help us with the birth of our first child. With everything going on in the world right now, we viewed Brazil as a good call option on the future and, for a one-time investment, a gift for our descendants for possibly generations to come. From the very beginning we found her to be reassuring, patient and very professional. She delivered a ‘white glove’ service, customised to our individual needs. She helped us with securing accommodation in a nice area, introducing us to the private doctor and hospital where we’d have our baby, all translations, all paperwork and documentation, all procedures and form-filling, and accompanied us to all appointments as needed. She obtained our baby’s passport after her birth and made the entire experience extremely smooth. Fast forward to our third baby, and we chose to revisit Florianopolis and hire Patricia for a second time, in 2024. We used the same doctor and the same hospital, and, again, Patricia was able to help us with accommodation. She is very well networked in Florianopolis, becoming something of all-round fixer. Nothing was too much trouble for her, and all requests were met with patience and courtesy; she’s a very friendly and considerate person, and is happy to explain every step of the journey as planned, as well as helping to navigate the inevitable bureaucratic surprises that can pop up in any country. If you have any doubts about Brazil specifically— safety-related or otherwise — you need not worry. Brazil is a very big country, and Florianopolis is incredibly safe; safer than many comparable Western cities, and certainly safer than London, where we were living at the time. It’s also an excellent added bonus that the island of Florianopolis is a very appealing place to stay, providing a relaxed and enriching lifestyle, and a lot of beautiful beaches and coastal spots to check out during your time on the island. Patricia’s service made both of our experiences having children in Brazil painless, pleasant, and the source of many wonderful memories. Her work has opened up an excellent Plan B for our future residence options, and I am confident that I’d have found the whole process substantially more frustrating and challenging if it wasn’t for having her at our side every step of the way.
